This is accurate. Depending on the topic, you could earn more from a highly viewed Medium article. But it would almost certainly need to be promoted by Medium or have something unique happen to ensure the majority of those readers are paying members.

The opposite is probably true in more cases though. I have written articles with a ton of views (largely external traffic) and seen stats of other articles from Medium pals, and they make a fraction of what a similarly viewed YouTube video would make.

But moreover, trying to compare views on both is just not a very good indicator of anything. The payment systems are too different.
