This article is incorrect or at best misleading. You can only achieve top writer status in a small number of tags (about 73 last I checked):

Using the tags you mentioned in your article as an example, the "money" tag is eligible for curation, but there is no top writer badge available for this tag. Take a look:

There are certainly not more than 1,000 available.

Top writer stastus is actually pretty formulaic:

While the tips included in this article may be good advice for writing on Medium in general or boosting views (one of the semi-requirements for top writer status), most have nothing directly to do with achieving top writer status.

I wrote this response not as an attack, but because I spend hours each week addressing Medium myths and falsehoods such as this one, which only lead to angry and confused writers.
