This article has a lot of good points but top writer is fairly formulaic, or it was once I found the “secret” post referenced above.

Also, the tags in your profile reset at the end of the day, as you noted, so there is a lot of fluctuation. But generally, as explained in more detail in the post, write using key top-writer status eligible tags, accumulate large views in said tags, post periodically to meet proprietary medium threshold (for recency of post in said tag).

Consequently, top writer status is pretty easy to obtain. That’s why people like MKS have so many. It’s very easy to game.

But it also is not necessarily indicative of earnings or even the most views or read time (due to the actual top authors not correctly tagging).
