Substack is definitely overused by Medium writers (I say this as a major fan of both platforms). More importantly, the type of writer that would benefit from one platform over the other is usually pretty distinct:

That said I agree with the other comments suggesting a free Substack newsletter to start. This makes it far less stressful!
